Binghamton Man Charged in Tioga County Following Investigation at Residential Care Facility
A Binghamton man has been charged following an investigation into an incident at a residential care facility in Tioga County, authorities announced.
Edward T. Renwick Jr., 61, was arrested on March 5 by the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division. He faces two counts of endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person in the first degree, as well as one count of endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person, or an incompetent or physically disabled person in the second degree. All charges are classified as class E felonies.
The charges stem from a reported incident on February 25 at a Broome Developmental Center residential care facility in the Town of Owego. According to the sheriff’s office, Renwick, an employee at the facility, is accused of causing physical injury to a resident and engaging in conduct that endangered the welfare of a second resident.
Following a week-long investigation, Renwick was arraigned in Tioga County CAP Court, where a judge issued an order of protection. He was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Owego Court for further proceedings.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the incident.
