Baldwinsville Child Dies in Devastating Apartment Fire: Community Shows Support
A heartbreaking tragedy struck on January 2nd when a fire tore through a multi-unit apartment complex in Ewing Township, New Jersey, claiming the life of a 6-year-old Baldwinsville boy.
Jayden Gotell-Watkins, a first-grader at Reynolds Elementary School in Baldwinsville, had been visiting family when the fire erupted. Trapped on the fourth floor, Jayden was rescued by first responders and rushed to Capital Health Regional Medical Center. Sadly, despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
Jayden was remembered by his school community as a bright and kind-hearted child. The Baldwinsville Central School District has activated its Crisis Response Team to provide counseling and support to students and staff mourning the loss of their beloved classmate.
In the wake of this unimaginable loss, a GoFundMe fundraiser has been launched to help Amber cover the costs of transporting Jayden’s body back to Syracuse, funeral expenses, and living costs.
This unexpected tragedy has created financial challenges, as Amber is not eligible for bereavement pay from her employer. We are asking for your support to help cover the costs of bringing Jayden home, funeral expenses, and to give Amber some financial relief during this heartbreaking time.
Ewing Township, New Jersey Mayor Bert Steinmann expressed his condolences, saying:
We are devastated by the loss of a child in today’s apartment fire. There are no words to express the pain and sorrow this family is enduring, and our hearts go out to them.
