A residential fire on Witt Road in the Town of Brownville resulted in a fatality Tuesday morning, prompting an ongoing investigation into the cause and origin of the blaze.
According to the New York State Police, emergency crews responded to the fire at approximately 9:24 a.m. on March 11, 2025. Multiple fire departments worked to extinguish the flames, and during their efforts, firefighters discovered a deceased individual inside the home. The victim’s identity has not yet been released, pending confirmation from the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire, and the investigation remains active.
Several agencies assisted in the response, including the New York State Police in Watertown, fire departments from Brownville, Three Mile Bay, Clayton, Chaumont, Glen Park, Northpole, and Watertown, as well as Guilfoyle Ambulance Service, the Jefferson County Office of Fire and Emergency Management, the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
