Onondaga County officials are once again urging drivers to heed height restrictions after another truck struck the Onondaga Lake Parkway Bridge. This incident is the latest in a long history of similar crashes at the bridge, which has a posted clearance of 10 feet, 9 inches.
Despite multiple warning signs leading up to the bridge, over-height vehicles continue to collide with the structure. The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office acknowledged the ongoing issue in a statement, noting that community members have frequently offered suggestions for preventing future accidents.
“This bridge has been the site of serious accidents, including the tragic 2010 incident involving a Mega Bus that resulted in the deaths of four people,” the Sheriff's Office stated. “We can’t afford to ignore these warnings.”
Authorities are urging all drivers, especially those operating large commercial vehicles, to be aware of their vehicle’s height and pay close attention to posted warnings.
Efforts to address the issue have included signage upgrades and public awareness campaigns, though accidents persist. Local officials continue to explore additional measures to prevent future collisions.
