Albany County Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Child Exploitation
A Slingerlands man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for sexually exploiting a minor, following an investigation that began after the victim disclosed the abuse.
Daniel Fuino, 75, pleaded guilty last year to charges related to child exploitation. According to federal prosecutors, Fuino engaged in illegal conduct with a 6-year-old girl while babysitting her between the summer of 2022 and April 2023. The victim later reported the abuse after attending a school presentation on inappropriate touching and sexual contact.
Law enforcement officials, including the FBI and local police, executed a search warrant at Fuino’s residence in Slingerlands following the disclosure. Prosecutors said he admitted to inappropriately touching the child. He has remained in custody since his arrest.
On Monday, U.S. District Judge Mae A. D’Agostino sentenced Fuino to 15 years in prison, followed by 15 years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay $36,962.25 in restitution to the victim and an additional $5,100 in special assessments. Upon release, Fuino will be required to register as a sex offender.
The case was investigated by the FBI with assistance from the New York State Police and the Colonie Police Department. Prosecutors pursued the case under Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at combating child exploitation.
