19-Year-Old From Canandaigua Killed in Crash on 5 & 20 in Hopewell
Authorities say a 2020 Dodge Ram, driven by 40-year-old Scott W. Sampson of Canandaigua, was traveling westbound on the roadway when it struck 19-year-old Calif Saunders, also of Canandaigua.
A fatal crash early Tuesday morning claimed the life of a pedestrian on State Route 5 & 20 in the Town of Hopewell.
According to the Ontario County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the scene at approximately 6:07 a.m. on March 18 following reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Crimson King Drive.
Authorities say a 2020 Dodge Ram, driven by 40-year-old Scott W. Sampson of Canandaigua, was traveling westbound on the roadway when it struck 19-year-old Calif Saunders, also of Canandaigua. Saunders was in the westbound driving lane at the time of the crash.
Emergency responders, including the Canandaigua Emergency Squad and Hopewell Fire Department, provided medical assistance at the scene before transporting Saunders to FF Thompson Hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries.
State Route 5 & 20 was closed for approximately two and a half hours as the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office Crash Management Team conducted an investigation.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
